High School Spotlight: Tony Bryant

Tony Bryant, RHP Kennewick HS

Tony Bryant helped lead Kennewick High School to a state championship last season and has been working hard this off-season to ensure a repeat. After high school Bryant will be attending Oregon State University to play ball for Coach Pat Casey and the Beavers. That is unless a professional team calls his name in the June draft. Tony answered a few questions for Baseball Northwest before the start of the season.

Mark Hills: Congratulations on becoming an Oregon State Beaver. Give me your feelings about going to play for Coach Casey and take me through the process that led to your decision?

Tony Bryant: I am very excited to go to Oregon State and play baseball. Coach Casey is a great guy and has really made my decision a lot easier. I visited Oregon State and it is a great town and a great environment to play baseball. And of course the Beavers have a great baseball program with a lot of good history in the recent years.

MH: Do you know what you want to study at OSU?

TB: Right now I am planning on studying business.

MH: You enter your senior year as the #2 ranked player in BBNW’s Super Sixty. What are your expectations for the upcoming season? Talk a little about your team goals and personal goals that you have set.

TB: I have very high expectations for myself and my team. I want to repeat the same season we had last year and win another state championship. I don’t have any specific goals for myself, but I do want to go out everyday and work hard and compete.

MH: I know your college choice is made. Do you have any expectations for the upcoming draft? Have you had contact with any professional scouts in the area and what are hearing from them?

TB: I am definitely expecting to be drafted in the upcoming draft in June. I have been in contact with many of the professional scouts during the off-season and the start of this season. It is hard to say what will happen in the draft, but I feel that the scouts have good interest in me and may be willing to sign me in June.

MH: You have played in a few BBNW events and been a member of the East Washington fall scout team. What are a couple of your favorite BBNW memories?

TB: All of the BBNW events have been great experiences and have helped me a lot along the way. I especially enjoy the Arizona Fall Baseball Classic and being able to go down to Arizona and playing in front of the scouts and against great competition.

MH: Off of the baseball diamond what other hobbies do you enjoy?

TB: I enjoy playing all different kinds of sports including ping pong. Also, I love to fish and to be outdoors.
