Ryan is a senior infielder at West Linn High School in West Linn, OR. In 2010 he will trade his Gold and Green Lions uniform for the Orange and Black of Oregon State. Ryan has the unique ability to play a number of positions (3B, 2B, OF) making him a very valuable commodity for any team. BBNW currently has Ryan ranked as the #2 senior in Oregon.
BBNW: So you are headed to Oregon State to play for Coach Casey and the two-time national champion Beavers. What went into that decision? Was it a long process or did you know right away that you wanted to go to Oregon State?
Ryan Barnes: Not a lot went into my process of going to Oregon State. It was my number one choice and when they offered it, I could not refuse the offer.
BBNW: You are off to a good start this year at the plate and on the mound. Most people see you as a position player in college. Is that what you see yourself doing or is there a chance you would want to get on the mound?
RB: If I were to get on a mound against college hitters it would not be a good sight. I am going to being a position player, I think it will be a great opportunity.
BBNW: You just finished up a bunch of Spring Break games. Tell me a little about those trips you made over the break
RB: We stayed local this year and went to Bend and Seattle. We got to play at the University of Washington which was a cool experience. We won two out of three on our road trip in Seattle, it prepared our team for the up and coming league games we have next.
BBNW: League play is beginning soon. Talk about your expectations for the season and how this year’s team is looking so far.
RB: League expectations are that we should be competing for a league title. We are doing well right now and I am hoping the team will keep it up.
BBNW: You have been involved with BBNW for quite a while. What are some of your favorite experiences in the program?
RB: Going to Arizona and playing in the Northwest Championships are always great experiences.
